How To Block Event and Game Requests on Facebook

Are you tired of constant game requests to play Candy Crush Saga? Maybe you’ve got an overeager promoter as a Facebook friend and you’re besieged by event invitations countries away.
Here is how to silence these notifications and live a cleaner Facebook life.

When a friend invites you to play a game, you get pinged in your notification area. It’s fairly easy to turn off notifications from the app the friend is engaging with, right from the notifications menu.
Mouse over the notification and look for the X on the right side. Click that X and it will lead you to turn off notifications for this specific app.

If you want to go a step further and block everything from certain apps, click on “Settings,” and then go to “Blocking” on the left side of the settings menu.
Sadly, there’s no kill switch to block all games or all app invites, but you can block the ones friends send you most often. You can also block invites from specific friends who constantly need help from you to get to the next level.

The Blocking settings screen also includes a way to 86 event invites from friends. Previously, this could be done on the actual event page, but this doesn’t seem possible now. When you block event invites from a certain person, your name/image will not be available to select when the friend is inviting people.
From the Blocking menu, you can put friends on the restricted list, so they only see your public updates. This could be good if you’re connected with co-workers/supervisors, or just don’t want close family to know what you’re doing all the time.
Under Block app invites, you can type in the name of popular apps to ensure you never see any more requests from that particular app. You can also go back and unblock the app, if you feel like it later on.
