Social Media: Snapshot Evolution, Saudi Arabia & The World

Over the past few years, we’ve been noticing a significant increase in the online usage in different terms. It’s a digital world; online shopping, online gaming, online education, online chatting, and we’ve seen an online marriage too!
TV makers are aware of this shifting and they started to launch different online apps and networks such as; Apple TV, Netflix, and Shahid.net.
However, TV ads are actually driving the audience into online interactions and engagement because it’s no longer a one-way message between brands and customers.

Statistics show that 52% of people in Saudi Arabia actually use a connected smartphone while they’re watching TV to search about a recent ad that they saw, or to follow a favorite TV actor.
Thus, people are so attached to their smartphones and care a lot about their online presence. 72% of advertising agencies say online video advertising is as effective, if not even more, than traditional marketing. (“Consumer Barometer from Google”, 2016)

In Saudi Arabia, social media is becoming more popular, where more than 64% of the population are active online. 40% of users access social media platforms to connect with friends up to several times a day. This is mostly due to the youthfulness of the country’s population and largely supported by the increasing access to mobile devices and decreasing costs of internet packages.
According to the Economist, Saudi Arabia has the world’s highest penetration of Twitter users. The most popular social network, as of 2015, is WhatsApp, with a 27% penetration rate.
50% of the total penetration rate are people in trigger stage who prefer to research online before they make their purchase decision, which makes it even easier for advertisers to target them.

Digital marketing has so many advantages such as:
